Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Face Paint System — Full Guide

Face Paint is one of the biggest new Mii Maker features in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream — a pixel-level overlay system that lets you draw directly on your Mii's face for scars, tattoos, anime markings, detailed makeup, and more.

🎨 What Is the Face Paint System?

Face Paint is a transparent pixel-art overlay that sits on top of your Mii's face. Unlike base features (eyes, nose, mouth), Face Paint is completely freehand — you draw anything you want at pixel level, in any colour, anywhere on the face.

The canvas is small (approximately 40×50 pixels, matching the Mii's face area), but skilled artists can create remarkably detailed results including tattoos, anime-style markings, freckles, beauty spots, fantasy designs, and elaborate makeup looks.

How to Access Face Paint

1Open Mii Maker (via island main screen or Settings)
2Select an existing Mii or create a new one
3On the face editing screen, look for the "Face Paint" brush icon in the toolbar
4Tap the Face Paint icon to open the pixel editor
5Select a colour from the palette on the right side of the screen
6Choose brush size (1px, 2px, 4px) and draw on the face canvas
7Use the eraser to correct mistakes
8Tap "Done" to apply — the face paint appears as an overlay on your Mii

Pro Tips for Face Paint

Zoom in first: The editor has a zoom function. Always zoom to maximum when working on fine details — much easier to draw accurate pixels.
Use the Fill tool for solid areas: For solid blocks of colour (like a full tribal tattoo), the fill bucket is faster than painting pixel by pixel.
Layer transparent colours: Use semi-transparent colours for blush effects, subtle freckles, and soft shadows that look natural over the Mii's skin tone.
"shadows"に肌トーンをマッチ: Draw subtle lines in a slightly darker version of the Mii's skin tone to add contouring depth.
Test on preview frequently: Toggle between the editor and the full Mii preview frequently. Designs look very different zoomed in vs on the actual Mii.
Plan symmetry manually: The editor has no symmetry mirror tool — for symmetric designs, count pixels carefully or use the 4px brush for rougher symmetry.

Face Paint FAQ

Can Face Paint be edited after Mii creation?+

Yes! Face Paint can be modified at any time. Go to Edit Mii → Face → Face Paint. Changes apply immediately with no other effects on the Mii.

Does Face Paint show up in all game scenes?+

Yes — Face Paint is visible in all in-game contexts: normal island view, close-up conversations, news broadcasts, sleep scenes, and special events.

Can I copy Face Paint from one Mii to another?+

Not natively. However, if you export a Mii to TomodachiShare and the recipient imports it, the Face Paint transfers with the Mii.

Is there a colour limit for Face Paint?+

The Face Paint palette offers the same colour options as the rest of the Mii Maker, including unnatural colours. There's no limit on how many colours you use in one design.
